ABRAM-VILLAGE - June 10, 2021 - Inspired by funny stories they've heard and local characters they've known over the years, Albert Arsenault and his sister Hélène Bergeron (both formerly of the group Barachois) set to work this spring to create a series of comedy sketches interwoven with beautiful songs and lively music. The result of their labours is the dinner show of "La Veillée au Village".
This charming and lively show will be the flagship production of the summer of the Village musical acadien in Abram-Village. "La Veillée au Village” will present its dinner show Tuesday through Thursday at 6:30 p.m., beginning July 7 and running through Aug. 31. (Doors open at 6 p.m.)
In addition to being the playwrights, Arsenault and Bergeron serve as the production's artistic directors. Then they have quite a cast to direct: five well-known Island Acadian artists, all of whom have extensive experience on the music and/or theatre scene.
They include super-energetic fiddler Louise Arsenault (Gadelle, Barachois, Les Girls, etc.), her son, the fantastic guitar-picking singer Jonathan Arsenault, the amazing multi-instrumentalist and singer Keelin Wedge (Johnny Oliver Band, Fiddlers' Sons, etc.), the young and talented bass player-pianist-singer Dawson Arsenault (Paloudes) and the skilled drummer-guitar player Shane Arsenault (Mailloche).
They don't want to give away any details about the skits, except that there will be lots of surprises and interesting costumes and scenery. As for the music and songs, there will be some of all kinds. A special effort has been made to ensure that each member of the troupe presents numbers that fit their talents, personalities and their skit characters and situations. Since the troupe includes two fiddlers of great reputation and talent (Louise and Keelin), one can obviously expect traditional and original tunes and probably some step dancing.
The evening will be a little different from the dinner-theaters of the past. The three-course meal will be served first, followed by two 45-minute music-and-sketch sets. For the main course, visitors will have a choice of seafood casserole or roast beef.
