Which Island river did the French call “rivière des Blonds” ? a) Hillsborough River b) Glenfinnan River c) Tryon River
Answer: Tryon River
It is not known why this river was named “des Blonds”. Is it because of the hay from the big marsh that borders the river, which becomes all golden at the end of the summer? According to the 1752 census, a few Acadian families with the names Reneauld, Robichaud and Bourg (Bourque) settled in this area of the island starting in 1750. Most of these people were deported to France in 1758 and, tragically, many perished at sea during the crossing.
