A native of Miscouche, Sister Antoinette DesRoches, long known as Sister St. Emmanuel, became a nun in 1925. A trained teacher, she taught for 53 years!

A passionate supporter of Acadian history and heritage, she became the true soul of the Acadian Historical Society of PEI, founded in 1955. She was elected president in 1960 and it is mainly thanks to her initiative that the Acadian Museum was built in 1964. She was the volunteer director of the museum for 15 years.
