PEI ACADIAN QUIZ - ANSWER 7

7) When a pig was killed for its meat, its bladder was kept. For what could it be used?  a) A balloon for a child;  b) A bag for storing berries;  c) A lamp.

Answer: A balloon for a child

In the past, almost every family in the countryside kept a pig or two. Pork was the most widely consumed meat.

When a pig was killed, almost no part of the animal was wasted. The blood, liver, heart, lungs and guts were used to make blood sausage. The contents of the head were used for making head cheese and the fat was used for making lard and soap. As for the bladder, it was inflated to make a balloon for the children or a tobacco pouch for the adults.
