Innovation PEI contributes $25,000 prize for Francophone Ignition Contest

CHARLOTTETOWN – Nov. 15, 2019 – For the second year in a row, Innovation PEI will provide the $25,000 grand prize for RDÉE Prince Edward Island’s Francophone Ignition Contest. These funds come from the provincial government’s Ignition Start-Up Fund.

Matthew MacKay, minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture, recently met with contest coordinator Julie Gallant to announce the funding and to discuss the competition.

Gallant explained that the RDÉE is currently seeking French-speaking people with business ideas to participate in the contest; the deadline for application is Jan. 18. Application forms and details about the competition are available at www.rdeeipe.net/ignition/.

Contestants will receive two days of free pitch training and an opportunity to present their business project in front of a local panel of judges. The top three projects will then be presented during a public event at the March 5 finals in Summerside; an Atlantic Canadian panel of judges will pick the winner. In addition to the $25,000 prize, this person will also win memberships to three Chambers of Commerce, college business courses and tickets to the 2020 Entrepreneurs’ Gala.
