A musical evening not to be missed on August 18 in Mont-Carmel!

The Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel (CDCPMC) is happy to announce the artists who will be performing at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall on Sunday, August 18. The seventh of eight shows, sponsored by artsVest, will feature the duo formed by Allan Gallant and Marcel Caissie, singer Daniel Drouin, Island singer/songwriter Marcella Richard, Québec singer/songwriter Geneviève Racette as well as New Brunswick’s traditional Celtic group Les Fireflies (Louise Vautour, Samantha Robichaud and Christine Melanson).   There will also be stepdancing by Robyn Gallant.

Over the last couple of years, Allan Gallant and Marcel Caissie have developed a repertoire of traditional songs, ambiance music as well as songs from the 50’s and 60’s.  Allan started his musical career by playing traditional music with La Famille Gallant.  Over the years, he was a member of numerous groups including Brador, 1295, 4 Cord Boys and Big River.  For his part, Marcel was a member of both the groups GAMECK and PANOU, which gave him the opportunity to share his Acadian culture as well as travel to numerous cities across the country.

Daniel Drouin is a staple in the music community on PEI.  In 2017, he released his debut album titled “It’s Been A Long Week”. He’s been nominated in both the Country Recording of the Year and Male Solo Recording of the Year categories at the Music PEI Awards.  He was chosen to participate in the CFCY 95.1 FM Showcase Showdown, where he took home the first place prize.   Daniel is also a member of PEI’s cover band Renegade.

Marcella Richard grew up amongst a musical family and was surrounded by fiddles, harmonicas, mandolins, guitars and songs.  She currently has four recordings to her name and her most recent recording “Marcella Richard Sings Roy MacCaull” was released in 2018. Her songs have been played on radio stations across Canada, in Louisiana and in France, and have reached the number one spot on charts in the Maritimes. Her voice has been described as one that goes straight to the soul and can make you laugh, dance and even cry.  Marcella will be joined on stage and accompanied by her sister Patricia Richard as well as Roland Beaulieu.

With a nomination at the Sirius XM Indies in 2015 and close to one million steams on Spotify, it’s no doubt that bilingual singer/songwriter Geneviève Racette captivates her listeners from their very first listen.  She very recently took the Osheaga Music festival stage in Montréal to perform a song with the very popular musical group City and Colour. During her performance in Mont-Carmel, you will have the pleasure to be soothed by her delicate voice and by the songs on her latest folk-pop recording “No Water, No Flowers”.

Les Fireflies is a group comprised of three very talented fiddlers, multi-instrumentalists and singer/songwriters from New Brunswick. The group, formed by Samantha Robichaud, Louise Vautour and Christine Melanson, has performed all over the world within their individual solo careers.  Together, they decided to collaborate in order to form a fiddling power group!  They perform Old Time, Acadian and Celtic music.  They’ve just released their debut album, which was recorded by J.P. Cormier. During the evening, the airs of their fiddles will warm-up the floor for stepdancer Robyn Gallant.

All concerts, happening every Sunday until August 25th, start at 7:00 p.m. and the doors of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall  (5786 Route 11, Mont-Carmel) open at 6:15 p.m. The public is invited to come early because the seating is limited. During the evening, spectators will be able to buy 50/50 tickets and the canteen will be open. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for members of the cooperative, $5 for students and free for preschoolers. You can find the 2019 lineup atwww.cooperativeculturelledemontcarmel.com
