The Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series is underway every Sunday night until August 25.
The fourth show of the season will take place on Sunday, July 28, and will feature New Brunswick Country singer-songwriter Flo Durelle, Nova Scotia indigenous singer-songwriter DeeDee Austin, and renowned island fiddler Richard Wood.
Originally from Baie-Ste-Anne, New Brunswick, Flo Durelle has been performing on stage since she was 5 years old. In the 80’s, she toured extensively throughout Canada and the US as a member of both Morning Sun and Calico. In 1984, she represented New Brunswick in the Great Atlantic Canada Talent Contest. During the 90’s, she performed in a duo with her brother Buff. In 2016, she released her first recording titled To Daddy, and a few years later, in 2019, her second album Listen to Your Heart. She is known for her strong vocal style, bubbly personality, and her love of country music. In 2020, she was inducted into the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame.
DeeDee Austin is an 18-year-old Indigenous singer/songwriter whose infectious energy, dynamic stage presence and authentic song writing is creating fans across Atlantic Canada and beyond. The busy young artist has already been nominated for and won numerous awards, including Music Nova Scotia’s Indigenous Artist of the Year for 2023 and a nomination for Dance Recording of the Year at the 2024 ECMAs. She currently has two albums to her credit: Stepping Stones (2021) and Stay Dancin' (2023). In 2023, DeeDee was part of the televised Canada Games closing show.
