WELLINGTON – Feb. 1, 2023 - Following the success of the theatrical production “Le Cadeau” (The Gift) on Dec. 10 and 11 at Le Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside, “La Jeune compagnie” (The Young Company) is pursuing its mission with enthusiasm. It is currently planning several theatrical, dance and technical training projects between now and September 2023.
Encouraged by the positive experience of their first play, the 30 or so volunteers/artists of all ages of this new troupe have already begun the process of planning at least five projects. In 2023, with various financial supports, the troupe wishes to take on:
• A theatrical tour of schools and communities with young people from Grades 4-8;
• The re-establishment of Acadiedanse, a provincial dance troupe featuring young and older dancers that was formed for the 2019 Congrès Mondial acadien (but which has been inactive since then due to the pandemic);
• The training of young technicians in our school-community centres;
• The production of the musical “J’étions les best” for the youth from Grade 9-12 in April;
• The revival of the Acadian trilogy project, “Port-La-Joye”, during the week of Aug. 15, 2023, after more than 30 years.
“It's an ambitious mission for La Jeune compagnie, which was established to support our emerging young performing artists. But it's a mission that can be achieved with the support of the community, sponsors, funders and other partners,” says Paul D. Gallant, the company's artistic director.
