Free information session on personal taxes for retirees returning to work

WELLINGTON - January 19, 2023 – The “Evangeline Employability 50+” project is hosting a free information session in French on Feb. 8 specifically for retirees who may be interested in returning to work or taking on small jobs but are unsure if and how that little bit of extra income would affect their personal income tax returns.

"It is sometimes difficult to know how employment income might affect our taxes, especially if we are receiving a pension," says coordinator Francine Arsenault. "Our Evangeline Employability 50+ project wants to encourage retirees to return to the workforce but we want to make sure they understand whether or not it would have an impact on their taxes."

Desmond Arsenault, himself semi-retired from a career in the tax field, will deliver the session in the Bienvenue Évangéline meeting room in Wellington's Place du Village mini-mall. The event will begin with a few words of welcome and a delicious supper at 5 p.m. Arsenault's session will then begin at 6 p.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. Participants will have half an hour at the end to ask any questions they may have. (In case of a storm, the session will be held on Feb. 15).

The presenter studied accounting at Holland College. He has prepared tax returns for over 35 years. He worked with the Canada Revenue Agency for 33 years, holding several positions over the years, progressing from client service officer to supervisor to manager. Arsenault continues to serve on several committees in the region and is currently the president of the Baie Acadienne Development Corporation. In addition, he is captain and spokesperson for the Wellington Fire Department.

Those interested may register by phone with Josée Ouellette at 854-3439 or by email with Francine Arsenault at francine@rdeeipe.org before Feb. 3.

The Evangeline Employability 50+ component, an important part of the Impact – Aîné.e.s Évangéline project, is managed by RDÉE Prince Edward Island and coordinated by Francine Arsenault.
