This Sunday during the Grand Ruisseau Song Festival!

The second show taking place during the Grand Ruisseau Song Festival organized by the Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel (CDCPMC) will take place this Sunday, September 18 at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall starting at 7 p.m.

This show will feature singer/songwriter Claude Cormier from the Magdalen Islands as well as the new generation performing the music of GAMECK & PANOU.

For Claude Cormier, music grasped his attention at a very young age.  Since this fisherman from the Magdalen Islands did not come from a musical family, he was left to figure out the rudiments of music on his own.  Lots of patience, determination and numerous campfires were required in order for him to learn how to play his instrument – the guitar.  Like all youths who dream of one day living from their music, Claude needed to find a way that would allow him to learn and understand the job and the industry. Therefore, over the years, he opened for numerous artists. In addition, he accompanied many singers and established artists.  He also performed in the bar circuit with his very first band – Cabano.  Through time, all the folks he met, sometimes idols but more often mentors, showed him the way and motivated him to keep persevering.  His convictions and his intense desire to succeed in music have helped him become the singer/songwriter that he is today.

Those who love Acadian music from the 1980’s will not want to miss this show as the new generation will be performing the greatest hits of musical groups “GAMECK” and “PANOU”.  Adrienne Gallant, Mylène Ouellette, Yves Arsenault, Mia MacInnis and  Jenn Lewis are five singers and musicians between the ages of 15 and 47 years old.  Together, they will perform an excerpt of one of the dinner-theatres presented this past summer at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall produced by Les Productions Cuisine à Mémé and titled « La nouvelle génération joue la musique de GAMECK et PANOU ».  Some of the five artists in the show remember attending performances by GAMECK and PANOU with their families when they were wee little ones while other group members weren’t born yet.  During this performance, you will most certainly get to hear some of your favorite songs such as “Calgary”, “Showtyme en Acadie”, and without a doubt “On s’en va à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard”.

The show will start at 7:00 p.m. and the doors of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall (5786 Route 11, Mont-Carmel) open at 6:15 p.m. During the evening, spectators will be able to buy 50/50 tickets and the canteen will be open. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for members of our Cooperative, $5 for students and free for preschoolers. Given that seating is limited, folks are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at www.cdcpmc.eventbrite.com.  For those who would rather purchase their tickets in person, tickets for our last show of the Grand Ruisseau Song Festival (September 25) will be available for purchase during this show.  If any tickets are left, they will be made available for purchase at the door on the night of the show.

The mandate of the Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel is to showcase, develop and promote the rich cultural heritage of Mont-Carmel.
