A concert not to be missed on July 31 in Mont-Carmel!

The Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series continues every Sunday night at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall until August 28.

The artists who will be taking the stage on Sunday, July 31, are Island singer/songwriter Alicia Toner, Country singer/songwriter Daniel Goguen from New Brunswick as well as the traditional music duo Ivan & Vivian Hicks from New Brunswick.

Alicia Toner is an Americana singer/songwriter. A unique sound that brings her folk roots into a pop/rock fusion sets her apart, but it is her earnest and heartfelt songwriting that captures audiences.  Her latest album, “Joan” was released in 2021 and, with this album, Alicia won the Solo Artist of the Year Award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and was nominated for two East Coast Music Awards as well as 7 Music PEI Awards (winning Solo Recording of the Year).

Singer/songwriter Daniel Goguen lives in St-Thomas-de-Kent, close to Bouctouche in New Brunswick and currently has 6 recordings to his name.  He has been performing on stage for the last 25 years.  For two consecutive years, his original songs were selected as Song of the Year on the French Country Music Charts of l’ARCANB : in 2014, it was his song “Les Backroads” and, in 2015,  “Finalement la fin de semaine”.  In 2016, Daniel won the Stingray Rising Star Traditional Country award at the Western Festival in St-Tite with his song “Finalement la fin de semaine”.  Furthermore, during the same year, he received nominations for both Album of the Year and Male Singer of the Year during the Country Gala presented at the Casino de Montréal.  His last studio recording “Un air country” was released during the fall of 2021.

Member of the North American Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame, Ivan Hicks has been playing music for over 70 years.  This renowned composer is an ambassador for Atlantic Canada’s heritage and is the co-founder of the Riverview Arts Centre. Ivan has been sharing the stage with his wife Vivian for a number of years.  Together, they have received numerous awards and prizes.  Among these are the prestigious Stompin’ Tom Award handed out by the East Coast Music Association (ECMA) in recognition of their long-term contribution to the East Coast music industry, the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Award and the Order of New Brunswick.

The show will start at 7:00 p.m. and the doors of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall (5786 Route 11, Mont-Carmel) open at 6:15 p.m. During the evening, spectators will be able to buy 50/50 tickets and the canteen will be open. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for members of our Cooperative, $5 for students and free for preschoolers. Given that seating is limited, folks are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at www.cdcpmc.eventbrite.com.  If any tickets are left, they will be made available for purchase at the door on the night of the show.
