After a two-year hiatus due to restrictions and reduced gatherings, the Conseil acadien de Rustico is thrilled to be producing their much-anticipated annual Lennie Gallant concert inside the St. Augustine’s Church.  The performance will take place this Sunday at 8 p.m.!

“Lennie Gallant has gained loyalty from his spectators around the world who come back year after year to watch him sing on the stage of the oldest wooden church on the island” says Andréa Deveau, Executive Director of the Conseil acadien de Rustico.

Not every Acadian community can boast of having produced one of Canada’s most award-winning singer-songwriters. Rustico, PEI, can however be extremely proud of raising Lennie Gallant!  His 14 albums (11 in English and three in French) have earned him a host of Atlantic and national awards and nominations (including Junos and ECMAs). He has performed nationally and internationally, either as a solo act, with symphony orchestras or with some of the world’s biggest names. His music has even been heard on the International Space Station. His most recent French album, Sirène et Matelot, was produced in collaboration with his partner Patricia Richard. His touring multimedia show, Searching for Abegweit, has played 180 times.

The show will start at 8 p.m. and the doors of the St. Augustine’s Church (2190 Church Road) will open at 7:15 p.m. Given the popularity of this show, it is strongly recommended to purchase your tickets prior to the day of the performance.  Tickets are $28 for adults and $18 for kids.  All tickets are subject to tax as well as processing fees and can be purchased at www.conseilacadien.com. 

A new vision
Historically, the “Rendez-vous Rustico” festival took place in one location in Rustico and over the course of a specific weekend every July.  However, it was decided tweak the name a bit and call it “Rendez-vous à Rustico” (which means Rendez-vous in Rustico) as organizers want to feature the whole region and various events taking place in Rustico throughout the year under the new branding.  This annual Lennie Gallant concert in the St. Augustin’s Church is but one the many events that will take place in the area under this new, but familiar name - “Rendez-vous à Rustico”.
