Three dances to help celebrate 49th edition of the Acadian Festival

Suroît and Réveil are featured bands

ABRAM-VILLAGE – Aug. 20, 2019 – Families and adults alike will have lots of chances to party during the three dances of the Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival at the end of August. Tyler's DJ Service and the very popular musical groups Suroît from the Magdalen Islands and Réveil from New-Brunswick will give a great boost of energy and Acadian pride to the celebrations.

The first dance, which will take place Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Club 50 in Abram-Village, will be divided into two parts. Tyler Jeffery of Tyler's DJ Service will first play music for a family dance for children, parents and grandparents from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Admission will be $1 for children and $2 for adults. Next comes a teen dance for youth aged 13 to 18 years, in the same location, from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. The admission fee will be $6.

DJÂBLE DANS L’CORPS

For the bedeviling evening of Le Djâble dans l’corps, Friday, Aug. 30, revelers will get the privilege of partying with the famous band Suroît, making a triumphant return to the festival after well over a decade’s absence! This fun evening, reserved for adults, will start at 10 p.m. at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram-Village.

Originally from the Magdalen Islands, the members of Suroît are tireless travelers; they tour the world to tell their stories and to share their roots and their musical influences.

Wherever they perform, these multi-instrumentalists spread the energy of a “Suroît”, a southwest wind that brings good weather and good times. A fiddle, an electric guitar, a mandolin and the rhythm of their feet and bones bring a fresh breeze to traditional music.

Suroît's music is made up of contrasts, comparable to the ardor of a great ocean storm that give way to the calming sunset on a Magdalen Islands beach.

The group has recorded a dozen albums, toured internationally and won a wide variety of musical awards, most notably at ADISQ Galas. Many fans will remember their great hits Léo, Mystificoté, Hé yaille yaille, La lianne and D'la bière au ciel.

EVANGELINE AND GABRIEL DANCE

The Acadian band Réveil, which this year celebrates its 12th annual appearance at the Acadian Festival, will undoubtedly entertain people at the Evangeline and Gabriel Dance Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 10 p.m., again at the Evangeline Recreation Centre. "Music that is performed 100 per cent in French, in a traditional Acadian style, and an energetic show that promises to make you dance!" promises the group.

Recognized as one of Acadia's most popular musical groups, Réveil was formed in 2006 in New Brunswick. The band is now composed of Maurice Johnson on bass, Joey McKinnon on drums, Brian Hébert on electric guitar, Denise Daigle on fiddle, Richard Bourque on acoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo, Kevin Arsenault on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Nancy Blanchard on vocals.

Over the years, they have recorded four albums: Sans problème (2007), Ah! Qu’il fait beau! (2009), On y va !!! (2012) and Allez, buvez (2016). All of their original songs are written by the brother-sister duo of Kevin Arsenault and Nancy Blanchard. Their music has been played a lot on French-language radio stations throughout the Atlantic region.

Admission to each of these adult dances is $15 per person.
