Various contests, competitions and races planned for 2019 Acadian Festival

ABRAM-VILLAGE - July 29, 2019 - People who enjoy participating in competitions, contests and races of all kinds for the chance to win cash or prizes are invited to prepare themselves for the Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival, which will offer them all kinds of competitive opportunities from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.

"Two of last year's new competitions generated a lot of interest and attention, both among competitors and spectators," said Jeanne Gallant, president of the Exhibition and Festival’s board of directors. "So we are reviving these two contests, with some minor improvements, this year. »

ACADIE FIT CHALLENGE

First, the Acadie Fit Challenge obstacle course – a strength and endurance competition –will take place Saturday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. This competition will include events aimed at agility, fitness and strategy, such as climbing a rope, building a pyramid with lobster traps, walking on a suspended plank, flipping a giant tire and other original obstacles. A scoring system will determine the winning team.

Those interested in participating in teams of five (one male, one female, two youths aged 13 to 17 and one other person) are asked to contact Janice MacIsaac at 902-315-1557 or Jason Arsenault at 902-954-1532. Individuals who don’t have a team may still sign up and organizers will try to set them up with any incomplete teams.

FISHERMEN'S COMPETITION

The Fishermen's Competition on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 3:45 p.m. is open to all captains and fishermen's helpers. They will have to participate in a series of events to accumulate points and for the chance to win cash prizes. Last year, for example, they had to pull 200 feet of fishing rope by hand, unlink and relink a chain, gaffe a quantity of buoys, pull a lobster trap attached to a rope over a distance of about 75 feet and put rubber pegs on lobster "claws". This year's competition will be very similar, but the specific events are still to be determined.

OTHER CONTESTS

A whole series of other contests and competitions are also being prepared for the weekend.

On Friday at 2 p.m., children will be able to participate in a variety of games and relay races with Jean "JR" Richard from Radio CJSE. Then, young people will be able to compete in the Provincial Youth Boot-Tossing Championship, starting at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, at 11:30 a.m., there will be a potato peeling contest, followed at noon by a chef competition to prepare dishes with clams, called "Clammin' N' Jammin'". Activities continue at 1:30 p.m. with a lobster eating contest and at 2 p.m. with a knitting contest. The popular horse-pulling competition will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the other end of the grounds. At 3:30 p.m., adults will have the opportunity to participate in their own Provincial Boot-Tossing Championships.

The all-terrain vehicle competition always attracts large crowds on Sunday afternoons. Organized by the Evangeline ATV Club, this event will start at 3:30 p.m. Alternatively, people can compete in a cow-milking contest starting at the same time.

Then, at 3:15 p. m., the public can enter a lobster-eating competition. At 5:30 p.m., a fishing-line casting contest takes place. And finally, at 6 p.m., the turnip bowling contest will be held.
