Evangeline-Central Credit Union returns as lead sponsor
WOODSTOCK – May 15, 2019 – Organizers of the 14th Annual Acadian Golf Tournament of PEI are advising golfers to sign up as soon as possible to ensure their spot in the ever-popular recreational event, which takes place on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 16, at the Mill River Golf Course in Woodstock.
“More than half of the 144 spots available in the tournament are already reserved by our regular golfers as well as by players who’ll be on the Island for the Arsenault and Haché-Gallant family reunions being held as part of the Congrès mondial acadien 2019,” says coordinator Jeannette Gallant. “Now that summer is fast approaching and the fact that our tournament is being held a month earlier than usual this year, we expect to get an influx of registrations in the next few weeks. So now is the time to register so that you don’t miss your chance and you avoid any disappointments.”
The Acadian Golf Tournament of PEI is a joint initiative of the PEI Regional Committee of Les Jeux de l’Acadie and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI. It is organized not only as a social and recreational event but also as a fundraiser to allow a delegation of some 100 Island youth to participate in the Acadian Games Finals. Last year, this popular tournament raised a record amount of $7,900. It is anticipated that this amount will be considerably surpassed this year.
Organizers are extremely pleased to be able to integrate the Arsenault and Haché-Gallant families into the tournament as well as on the organizing committee. These family reunions will attract participants from all over the world; it is expected that quite of few of these people will want to play in the tournament, partly because it is being held at Mill River, one of the most popular courses on the Island.
As always, the success of the tournament will depend not only on the golfers’ registrations but also on the hole sponsors. Organizations and businesses are being invited to sponsor holes for $100 each in exchange for various promotional rewards.
After playing their 18 holes, the golfers will gather at the clubhouse for a good supper and the awards ceremony.
LEAD SPONSOR
“Évangéline-Central Credit Union is extremely pleased to be the main sponsor of this amazing annual event for the 13th consecutive year,” said credit union general manager Alfred Arsenault as he presented his sponsorship cheque to the organizers. “This fundraiser allows the community to demonstrate its continued support for Les Jeux de l'Acadie. This vital event focuses on youth development by promoting participation in physical activity in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally. Thank you to all the participants as well as the numerous volunteers for making this yearly event an ongoing success.”
The registration fee for this year’s tournament will be $90 per person or $360 per foursome.
