Acadian Golf Tournament partners with CMA 2019’s Arsenault and Haché-Gallant family reunions

August 16, 2019, at Mill River

WOODSTOCK – November 9, 2018 – The 14th annual Acadian Golf Tournament of PEI will have a new and particular flavor as it partners with the Arsenault and Haché-Gallant family reunions being held as part of the Congrès mondial acadien 2019.

This friendly golf tournament will be held on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 16, a month earlier than usual, to accommodate golfers from the two family reunions as well as regular players. The tournament will take place at the Mill River Golf Course in Woodstock, PEI, one of the most popular courses on the Island.

The Acadian Golf Tournament of PEI is a joint initiative of the PEI Regional Committee of Les Jeux de l’Acadie and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI. It is organized not only as a social and recreational event but also as a fundraiser to allow a delegation of some 100 Island youth to participate in the Acadian Games Finals. Last year, this popular tournament raised a record amount of $7,900.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to integrate the Arsenault and Haché-Gallant families into our tournament as well as on our organizing committee. We must however highlight the fact that we can only accommodate 144 players in the 2019 tournament,” says Julie Gilman, president of the PEI Regional Committee of the Acadian Games. “We are therefore inviting all those interested in playing in the tournament to register early to make sure they get a spot.”

Georges Arsenault and Tilmon Gallant, presidents of the organizing committees of the Arsenault and Haché Gallant families, see this tournament as a great opportunity for members of these two large Acadian families to meet and socialise. It is expected that the family reunions will attract participants from all over Canada, the United States, as well as from Europe and beyond.

Acadian Chamber spokesperson Pierre Gallant doesn’t expect any difficulty getting all 144 spots filled with individual players as well as with family and corporate teams. “As always, the success of the tournament will depend not only on the golfers’ registrations but also on the hole sponsors. Organizations and businesses are being invited to sponsor holes for $100 each in exchange for various promotional rewards,” he adds.

After playing their 18 holes, the golfers will gather at the clubhouse for a good supper and the awards ceremony.

“Évangéline-Central Credit Union is extremely pleased to be the main sponsor of this amazing annual event for the 13th consecutive year,” said credit union general manager Alfred Arsenault. “This fundraiser allows the community to demonstrate its continued support for Les Jeux de l'Acadie. This vital event focuses on youth development by promoting participation in physical activity in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally. Thank you to all the participants as well as the numerous volunteers for making this yearly event an ongoing success.”

The registration fee for this year’s tournament will be $90 per person or $360 per foursome. To receive more information or to register, contact Jeannette Gallant at
