All kinds of contests and competitions slated for Evangeline Agricultural Exhibition

ABRAM-VILLAGE – Aug. 14, 2018 – Popular competitions, such as those for musical talent and woodsmen’s skills, hosted by the Evangeline Area Agricultural Exhibition and Acadian Festival always attract lots of attention. But volunteers also organize a variety of other original contests that offer a wide array of interesting prizes for participants from the public or for particular groups of people.

These countless competitions and contests, which always have a traditional flavor and are always related to farming or fishing, are being planned to entertain visitors and to give them an opportunity to immerse themselves into the local culture. All of these events take place in Abram-Village between Friday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 2.

On Friday, at 2:30 p.m., children will be able to participate in a wide array of games and relay races hosted by John “JR” Richard from CJSE Radio. The children will then be able to compete, at 3:30 p.m., in the Provincial Youth Rubber Boot Throwing Championships.

SATURDAY

Things start to really kick into gear Saturday. Starting at 11:30 a.m., there’ll be a potato peeling contest, followed by a chefs’ competition entitled Clammin’ N’ Jammin’ to prepare bar-clam dishes.

These will be followed at 1:30 p.m. by a lobster eating contest and at 2 p.m. by a knitting competition. The Provincial Adult Rubber Boot Throwing Championships take place at 3 p.m. The ever-popular horse pulls take place at the same time at the far end of the exhibition grounds.

SUNDAY

The all-terrain-vehicle competition always attracts a large crowd Sunday afternoon. Organized by the Evangeline ATV Club, this popular event kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Alternatively, festival attendees can try their hand at the cow-milking contest.

Next, at 3:45 p.m., festival goers will have a choice of watching the fishermen’s competition or participating in the lobster eating contest. A fishing line casting contest follows at 5:30. Finally, everyone will be able to try their hand at turnip bowling at 6 p.m.
